Vancouver Canucks set constant improvement as top priority – NHL offseason Update
Vancouver had already set an example for all the Canadian team’s in the National Hockey League (NHL), as they played the best regular season in their 40-year history as a franchise, and reached the Stanley Cup Finals after an amazing stretch in the playoffs.
Now their working harder and are not letting their defences down as they announced on Friday, July 29, that during the offseason, constantly improving as a team would not only be on the list of things to-do, but more of a top priority.
According to fans and analysts, Vancouver did the unthinkable last season as they pushed their limits and became one of the most rooted for teams’ in history of the NHL. For them though, it is a totally different story. Not having won their first Stanley
Cup against Boston Bruins was certainly a letdown for them and next season, they hope to finally capture it.
Assistant general manager of Vancouver Canucks, Laurence Gilman, is certainly headed in the right direction regarding his teams’ betterment and terms money as something that can easily be spent for that.
“‘We’re still looking at areas to improve the hockey team’, assistant GM Laurence Gilman said. ‘There is money to be spent’.
During the 2011 NHL offseason, Vancouver Canucks now have 23 players signed on to their roster for the next regular season which brings the total expenditure for players at $61.8 million and leaves $2.5 million unused.
Without a doubt, Vancouver still has all the attributes to remain one of the, if not the top team in the league when the new season begins in October. There are still many aspects of the team which could be changed and some additions could be made, but with
all that aside, they still dominated by scoring 117 points to rank first overall in the NHL.
They not only scored the most goals in the league but also allowed the fewest on their next as well. Roberto Luongo, their main goalie, defended the net like it was a piece of cake, and at one time became known as the shootout kind.
With high hopes, Vancouver Canucks are certain that they will be able to dominate the Western Conference once again. Western team’s will definitely face a tough time coming up, especially when they have to face a team like Vancouver.
