Vancouver Canucks sign 57th pick of the NHL draft Alexandre Mallet in a three-year deal
Alexandre Mallet, the Canadian forward who was picked 57th overall in the second round of the NHL draft by Vancouver Canucks, is signed by the same team that had picked him.
The three-year entry-level deal was signed on Thursday. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed by anyone as per team’s policy.
There are not many 20-year-old players who are selected in the second round but Mallet, the 20-year-old right winger was signed because of impressive performance he showed last season and showed a major improvement which forced Vancouver Canucks to sign
him as he is still young and a lot to offer.
The Amqui, Quebec born player started his hockey career with Collège Notre-Dame Albatros in QMAAA 2007-2008 season and had a good start to his career by scoring 11 goals, 10 assists and 21 total points in 33 games of the first  season he played in. He had
an even better second season as he scored 15 goals, 13 assists and 28 total points in the 39 games.
During the second season at QMAAA, he joined Rouyn-Noranda Huskies of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) and played 10 games in the 2008-2009 season and 39 in the 2009-2010 season but he did not have a successful time there as he scored just 5
goals, 5 assists, 10 points in 49 games there.
The 6-foot-1, 172 pounder again made a move in between the season, this time to Rimouski Océanic of the QMJHL and showed a little better performance than what he had showed with previous team, by scoring five goals and five assists in the first season, got
a little better in next season by scoring 19 points but his outstanding performance came in 2011-2012 season when he scored 34 goals, 47 assists for 81 points in just 68 games.
Mallet thinks that he has got potential as he said,
“I really think I have that potential. I worked on it a lot whenever I got a chance to play. This year, with a new coach, I came in really confident and he gave me a chance”.
He also added,
“I’m a tough guy who can score goals. I have to keep all that characteristic together to be me”.
