Vancouver Canucks signs sixth centre player Andrew Ebbett –NHL offseason Update
Vancouver Canucks signed another veteran centre player, Andrew Ebbett, to its line-up on Tuesday with a contract, of which the duration, financial terms and conditions have not been disclosed as yet.
Vancouver’s line-up already consists of five major centre players that make a big impact on the ice, including Canucks' captain, Henrik Sedin, Ryan Kesler, Manny Malhotra, Cody Hodgson and Maxim Lapierre, all under contracts with Canucks.
The 28-year-old, Andrew Ebbett hails from Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and has been playing for various teams, but has not completed a full season in the National Hockey League (NHL) as yet.
Ebbett began playing hockey with the University of Michigan in 2002 and continued until 2006. Throughout that time frame, he played 40 plus games, each season, and put up a total of 143 points with 38 goals and 105 assists.
He joined Ottawa Senators' farm club in the American Hockey League (AHL), Binghamton Senators, in the 2006-2007 season, in which he was able to put up 65 points with 26 goals and 39 assists, in a total of 71 games, he played.
Not being drafted, but rather picked up, Ebbett played with Anaheim Ducks for three games and registered no points with a plus-minus rating of three.
For the remaining part of the 2007-2008 season, Ebbett played with Portland Pirates of the AHL and appeared in 74 games, boasting a 72 point performance with 18 goals and 52 assists.
The 5’9”, 174-pound centre, played 48 games with Anaheim the following season and potted a career-high of 32 points with 8 goals and 24 assists.
Ebbett played with Anaheim for two more games during the 2009-2010 season until being dealt to Chicago Blackhawks for another 10 in which he scored a single goal.
He then went on to play 49 games with Minnesota Wild and recorded 14 points with the franchise with 8 goals and 6 assists.
Last season, the Canadian player played 33 games alongside Phoenix Coyotes, but managed to put up only five points, 2 goals and 3 assists.
It is not widely expected that Ebbett will get a major chance next season with Vancouver, unless he makes an unprecedented impact on Canucks' game-play.
