Vancouver Canucks stunned after first-round elimination by Los Angeles Kings -NHL Playoffs Update
Vancouver Canucks will now have more than enough time than their normally used to ponder upon why they were eliminated with such ease by Los Angeles Kings from just the opening round of the 2012 National Hockey League (NHL) Stanley Cup Western Conference
Playoffs.
Failing to grab their first ever Stanley Cup championship in franchise history after a loss to Boston Bruins in Game 7 of the finals last year, Vancouver was determined to give it another shot but their dreams were short lived.
Ending the 2011-2012 NHL regular season as the top seed from the West and earning the Presidents’ Trophy, Vancouver was expected to take all others down for sure, but it was directly the opposite.
"To be honest, it doesn't matter if you lose the seventh game of the finals or you lose in five in the first round, it's devastating," said Daniel Sedin.
There might not be anything to blame except their performance, Vancouver’s Henrik Sedin thinks it was the sloppy play and constant penalties given on their part to Los Angeles.
"In the first game we took way too many penalties," said Henrik Sedin. "In the second, the power play cost us the game. If you do that in a seven-game series, you give away two games, you've got to win four out of five and that's tough when they don't give
you an inch out there."
Looking around the league, Vancouver Canucks are not the only ones to have faced disappointment. Pittsburgh Penguins faced the same fate along with the San Jose Sharks and especially the Detroit Red Wings.
"It probably means a lot more to other people being a big upset and them being the Presidents' Trophy winner," said Kings' captain, Dustin Brown. "For this team it was what we were going for the whole time."
With Vancouver out of the postseason run now, they can work towards rebuilding the team and make them a Stanley Cup contending group once again. The process will definitely not be easy more a lot of its members since there could be some firing and letting
go sometime soon.
