Vancouver Canucks trade Hordichuk to Florida Panthers for Peters
The Vancouver Canucks have traded Darcy Hordichuk to the Florida Panthers in return for tough guy Andrew Peters.
The Canucks were hoping the move Hordichuk after it became clear that he was not going to make the team, after losing his spot on the fourth line. Hordichuk is a tough fourth line contributor, who is able to compete on a nightly basis. The Panthers will
find a better role for the veteran than Canucks would have this season. The young Florida side is in need of some veteran presence in their bottom-six. Moreover, Hordichuk brings a better all around game than Peters, who is a very one dimensional player.
Nevertheless, the Canucks were able to move a veteran who still deserves to play in the League to an organization that can use him. In Peters the Canucks get a perennial American Hockey League player, who will be lucky to see time with the big club this
season. In this trade Gillis may have been looking to add some sandpaper to his line-up. However, the fact that Peters was a healthy scratch for most of the season last year makes in unlikely he will be very important to the Canucks.
The Panthers should be excited about getting Hordichuk in return for Peters. Florida is in need of some depth at the forward position and that is exactly what the 30-year-old will bring to the line-up. Capable of being effective, while playing 10 minutes
a night, as well as the ability to kill penalties, should make him a valuable addition to the club.
Last season with Vancouver Hordichuk managed 2 points in 56 games, while tallying 142 penalty minutes. Meanwhile, Peters was not able to record a point in 29 appearances last year with the Devils, but did record 93 penalty minutes.
