Vancouver Canucks trying to avoid defeat against Nashville Predators – NHL Playoffs Preview
The Vancouver Canucks are gearing up to take on the Nashville predators in what is shaping up to be a battle royale scheduled for Saturday.
Vancouver should have learned a lesson from the quarter-finals against the Chicago Blackhawks when they were forced into a game seven decider after taking a so called commanding 3-0 lead in the series after game three.
The Chicago Blackhawks had barely made the playoffs ahead of ninth place Calgary by squeaking past with a point and were up against the first placed Vancouver Canucks, who were winners of the Presidents’ Trophy for having their best season yet in the 40
years they have been part of the National Hockey League (NHL). Even after having all those disadvantages against them, the Chicago Blackhawks pulled off what no one could have ever expected. They won three consecutive playoff games after being on the verge
of elimination and forced a game seven which they eventually lost by a hairs length in overtime.
Vancouver should be aware of the fact that the Nashville Predators are a much stronger team than the Blackhawks this time around and have entered the semi-finals for the first time in 12 seasons. The Predators are looking to hunt down the Canucks and recover
to become the fourth team in NHL playoff history to do so, the third being the Philadelphia Flyers in last year’s playoffs.
The Canucks have a chance at eliminating them on their home ice as they are now currently on a two game winning streak both in Nashville and returning home for game five on Saturday at the Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia. Until and unless the
Canucks can blow out the series and advance into the conference finals on Saturday, the series will return to Nashville for game six, which might make it a whole new ball game for them.
"Today we chipped in from the back end and that's what we need," Christian Ehrhoff told the Vancouver Sun after game four. "Different guys have to step up in different games and tonight we stepped up from the back end."
That is exactly what the President Trophy winners need, to have guys step up when they feel their having a good night. One of the top players in the regular season, Henrik Sedin, notched in his first goal of the postseason in game four which comes to show
that the competition is totally different in the playoffs. No matter how good you are in normal pre-playoff games, performing in the postseason takes you to a whole new level in the eyes of the fans. Their American All-Star also potted double goals throughout
game three and four giving his team a further boost.
Nashville could hope for that special miracle to happen in which they will win the remaining games and make it look like a scene from a movie, but the Predators are talking more in realistic terms instead of daydreaming.
"I could give you coach talk and say we're never out of it, but I've seen it all year. I've seen it when our backs are against the wall. I've seen it in the playoffs," Nashville Coach Barry Trotz said. "As our coaching staff calls it, we've been on death's
door a couple of times. In the Anaheim series we were there (in Game 5) and found a way to come back and win. In Vancouver we were there (in Game 2). We find ways.”
The Predators know how to handle a tough situation as was they showed against the Anaheim Ducks in the quarterfinals. It takes proper planning and execution of that planning to win games, not miracles. As hard as it is to wait for both teams to enter the
arena on Saturday at 8:00pm ET, it might be even harder for the team that does not take control of the match early on.
