Vancouver Canucks uncertain on forward Daniel Sedin’s return from head injury-NHL News
The Vancouver Canucks remain uncertain about return of forward, Daniel Sedin, who is said to be not hundred per cent in recovering from a head injury he suffered during the game against the Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday, March 21, 2012.
His brother, Henrik Sedin, said on Thursday, March 22, 2012, that Sedin was still having some symptoms and headache spells and therefore is not sure about the timeline of his return to the squad.
He said:
"He has symptoms, a little bit of a headache, which comes with a hit like that.”
The team has not speculated his return either, which has given birth to some doubts on his return to the squad in the regular season.
Sedin’s injury came when he received an elbow hit to his head from Chicago Blackhawks’ defenseman, Duncan Keith, who denied it to be an intentional one.
Keith said:
"I'm not trying to hurt anybody. I hope he's OK. He's one of their best players. He needs to be on the ice."
The league office has suspended Keith for five games without pay over the hit and the player is serving the ban since Friday, March 23, 2012.
His punishment comes in spite of his demands to review the hit in the replays before making a final comment on it.
Some commentators believe the suspension was rather a minor penalty for the player given the serious nature of the head injury.
Keith further said:
"It's a fast game. I'm not trying to hurt anyone. I haven't seen the replay so I really can't comment on it."
Sedin has already missed a game against the Dallas Stars, on Friday 23, 2012, which Vancouver won by two to one (2-1) goal margin. The team is on a four-game road trip.
The player has the leading 30 goals streak this season. He remains on the top of Northwest Division.
His contribution has remained vital to the team’s form and victories throughout the season and the ousting at this point of time comes as a rather setback the team’s successful run for the playoffs.
Vancouver, with 97 points on the league’s points table, are second best on the Northwest Division, just five points behind the leaders, St. Louis Blues, who have 101 points.
Some commentators, however, believe that the forward’s absence is least likely to affect the team’s playoff hopes.
Also, the injury is not going to take as much longer as to affect them in the postseason run. The maximum time Sedin can take on his full recovery and fitness could be a week, and the time period is not substantial enough to affect the team’s postseason
run.
