Vancouver Canucks wins 3-1 against Atlanta Thrashers depriving Thrashers of its playoff chances
The second last game of Friday was hosted by Atlanta Thrashers as it played host to the league leaders, Vancouver Canucks, a game which Canucks easily won by 3-1 in the end.
The level desperation for a win was more for Thrashers as it was hoping to score important points in the search of a playoff spot.
Canucks, on the other hand, wanted to score points and clinch the Conference and the League.
The game started off with both teams coming up with shots every now and then but they were unable to find the back of the net. Both teams had easy scoring chances throughout the period but they failed to score.
The second period began with Canucks dominating the game right from the start and scored twice during the period to get into a comfortable position.
The final period saw Thrashers scoring the first goal but Canucks scored once again to win the game 3-1 in the end.
Roberto Luongo, goal keeper of Canucks, was named the star of the game as he made 30 saves during the course of the game.
Canucks was the team that came up with early shots on goal which it came up with creating some decent plays.
Its passing and offensive plays were strong which left Thrashers stunned at times. With the backing of the crowd, Thrashers managed to come up with some decent plays and it looked as if it would score the opening goal.
All that the two teams at the end of the period was attack but they weren’t able to find the back of the net. The period ended with the scores level on 1-1 with the Canucks making 7 shots on goal while the Thrashers made 10 shots on goal.
The second 20 minutes of play began with the stronger of the two teams and they scored in the sixth minute to get into the lead. The goal was scored by Mason Raymond from a decent strike. The Canucks continued to attack and scored once again in the 13th
minute through Alexandre Bolduc from a brilliant backhand shot to double their lead.
The period saw the Thrashers making shots on goal but they couldn’t score as the period ended with Canucks leading 2-0. During the period, the Canucks made 14 shots on goal while the Thrashers made 9 shots on goal.
Both teams made a decent start to the final period but they were cautious on the attacks. It took some time but Thrashers scored in the 15th minute through Bryan Little to cut the lead to a single goal.
Canucks responded with a goal in the final minute which was scored by Alexandre Burrows from a flick shot to win the game 3-1.
During the final period, Thrashers made 12 shots on goal while Canucks made just five shots on goal.
