Vancouver Canucks wins 3-1 against Los Angeles Kings at its home ice at the Rogers Arena
The league leaders, Vancouver Canucks, played host to Los Angeles Kings this Thursday at the Rogers Arena which saw Canucks winning by 3-1.
Canucks has already clinched the Conference and the Division titles and is setting franchise record for most points with each point they score. Kings needed the win to ensure a spot in the playoff as the battle for the final few spots is heating up.
The start by both teams was good but it was Kings who scored the lone goal of the first period to get into the lead.
The second period saw Canucks coming up with some brilliant plays as well that resulted in Vancouver scoring twice and getting into the lead.
The final period saw Canucks scoring the lone goal of the period to win the game 3-1 in the end.
The game ended with Daniel Sedin, Canucks’ winger, being named the star of the game as he scored a goal and came up with an important assist.
There were shots on goal by both teams during the course of the first period which was expected. The shots were well dealt by the goalkeepers who didn’t allow any goals. Kings, despite playing away, was able to bag the first and lone goal of the period to
get into the lead.
The goal was scored by Kyle Clifford from a decent strike in the 14th minute. There were a couple of more shots on goal by both teams but no further goals were scored and the period ended with Kings leading 1-0.
The period saw Canucks making seven shots on goal while Kings made 11 shots on goal.
The second period began with Canucks showing why it was leading the league and it took it some time but it scored in the 16th minute through Daniel Sedin to level the scores.
Canucks kept on piling pressure on the opposing team, constructing some brilliant plays.
Kings matched Canucks on several occasions but lacked the final touch which hurt it bad. Canucks, with loads of confidence, scored in the final minute through Christian Ehrhoff’s placed shot to get into the lead.
The period ended with Canucks leading 2-1 and making 12 shots on goal while Kings made eight shots on goal.
The final 20 minutes of play was totally dominated by Canucks and its defence which restricted Kings to no shots on goal during the period.
On the other hand, Canucks fired 16 shots on goal and scored once again in the 16th minute through Ryan Kesler to seal the game at 3-1.
