Vancouver Canucks wins 3-1 against the Los Angeles Kings to extend their lead up front - NHL weekend roundup
One of the important games of Saturday was the Los Angeles Kings playing host to the league leaders Vancouver Canucks at the Staples Center.
A win was very important for both teams with the Kings looking to move up from the final play-off position while Canucks needed the two points to open up the gap between Flyers who lost their game early on.
The Kings scored early in the game but the Canucks didn’t let them run away and scored too.
The period ended with the scores level and it remained the same at the end of the second period.
However, the Canucks managed to shift gears in the final period and score twice to win the game 3-1 in the end.
Jannik Hansen was named the star of the game as he scored the equalizing goal for the Canucks.
Kings got off to a flying start and it didn’t take them too long to score.
They took the lead with a goal in the sixth minute which was scored by their new addition, Dustin Penner who scored from a brilliant flick shot.
However, after the goal the period was all about the Canucks. They not only dominated the game during the offence but their defence was inch perfect.
They successfully levelled the scored with a goal in the 10th minute which was scored by Jannik Hansen from a superb backhand shot.
The Canucks fired numerous amount of shots on goal but unfortunately weren’t able to find the back of the net.
The period ended with the Canucks still firing shots on goal. The scores were level on 1-1 at the end of the period with the Canucks making 14 shots on goal during the period while the Kings made just 4 goal attempts.
The second period saw the same pattern being followed with the Kings making a strong start after which the Canucks overpowered them with some brilliant play.
Though the Kings had some easy scoring chances which they didn’t expect coming, they ended up missing the target.
The period saw the Canucks finishing on a high once again as they came up with some very strong plays and shots. But the problem of not finding the back of the net prevailed till the end of the period.
The 20 minutes of play ended with the scores still level on 1-1. During the course of the period, the Kings made 8 shots on goal while the Canucks made 13 shots on goal.
The final period saw the Canucks scoring through Daniel Sedin in the 12th minute and then in the final minute through Alexander Burrows from a backhand shot to win the game 3-1 in the end.
During the period, the Canucks made 9 shots on goal while the Kings made 10 goal attempts.
