Vancouver Canucks wins 3-2 against the St. Louis Blues
The second last game of Thursday was hosted by the league leaders, Vancouver Canucks at the Rogers Arena. The win was important for both teams as they didn’t have much success in the last few games. The Canucks are leading the league but their last few performances
have seen them dropping a few points and cutting the lead to a single points with the Flyers up next.
The Canucks were on target right from the start as they twice in the first period and didn’t allow any goals during the first 20 minutes of play. The Blues scored twice in the second to level the scored as the final period began. However, the Canucks scored
the only goal in the final period to win the game 3-2 in the end. Manny Malhotra of the Canucks was named the star of the game for scoring the winning goal of the game.
After a strong start to the game, the Blues saw a dip in their performance with the passage of time. The Canucks got better and take control of the game. However, during the momentum transition period the Blues managed to come up with quite a few shots on
goal but they weren’t able to score any goals.
The period saw the Canucks dominating the game in the department of offence and defence after the first few minutes. The Canucks capitalized from this to the fullest as they scored through Mikael Samuelsson from a brilliant backhand shot to get into the
lead.
A few minutes later, the Canucks scored once again in the 17th minute through Sami Salo’s powerful strike to double their lead. The Canucks controlled to control the pace of the game till the very end of the period but couldn’t score any further
goals.
The Canucks led 2-0 as the period ended as they made 17 goal attempts in the period while the Blues made 11 shots on goal.
The second period saw the Blues coming out very strong not only on the offence but maintained a very solid defence. The defence restricted the opposing team to almost nothing during the course of the period.
However, the Blues also benefit from their strong performance in the period as they scored two goals in the 8th and 9th minutes to level the scores. The goals were scored by Alex Pietranglo during power play and David Backes from a
powerful strike.
The Blues were on top during the course of the period but couldn’t score any further goals. The period ended with the scores level on 2-2. During the period, the Blues made 11 goal attempts while the Canucks made just four goal attempts.
The final period was mostly defence dominated but the Canucks scored early in the second minute to get into the lead. The goal was scored by Manny Malhotra froma a well placed flick shot. The defence was on top after this and there were rare and difficult
chances for both sides. Unfortunately, no more goals were scored as the period ended with the Canucks winning the game 3-2 in the end.
During the period the Canucks made six goal attempts while the Blues made 8 goal attempts but couldn’t score any goals.
