Vancouver Canucks wins 4-2 against Minnesota Wild making it hard for Wild's run for the playoff cut
The final game of Monday was played at the Rogers Arena as the league leaders, Vancouver Canucks, played host to Minnesota Wild.
The game was important for both teams with Canucks looking to extend their lead up front while Wild were looking to score some important points and make their way back into the cut.
The game started with Canucks on a roll as they came up with a strong offence. Canucks put pressure on the opposing team right from the start which saw them scoring three times during the first period.
Wild managed to score the lone goal during the second period.
Wild scored in the final period to cut the lead to a single goal but Canucks scored once again to seal the game 4-2 in the end.
Roberto Luongo of Canucks was named the star of the game as he made 33 saves during the course of the game.
Canucks were sky high looking for their sixth straight win and did just what they wanted. They scored in the second minute through Raffi Torres from a well placed flick shot to get into the lead.
Wild were also coming up with shots every now and then but it was Canucks who scored once again in the 9th minute.
The goal was scored by Daniel Sedin from a flick shot during power play.
Canucks completed a dominating period’s performance with another goal in the 15th minute which was scored by Ryan Kesler from a brilliant backhand shot during power play.
The period ended with Canucks leading 3-0 with both teams making 12 goal attempts each during the course of the period.
The second period started off with Canucks making a couple of shots on goal. However, Wild managed to combine very well together at the back.
They restricted Canucks to their half during the period and didn’t give them any space which resulted in no shots on goal.
One the other hand, their offence was also very strong which saw them creating chances for themselves every now and then. It took some time but Wild managed to score in the 18th minute to trail by two goals.
The goal was scored by Andrew Brunette from a flick shot.
The period saw Wild making a few more shots on goal but no further goals were scored as the period ended with Canucks leading 3-1.
During the course of the period, Canucks made just three shots on goal while Wild made 14 shots on goal.
The final period saw Canucks making 7 shots on goal while Wild made 9 shots on goal.
Both teams scored a goal apiece. Wild were first to score in the fifth minute through Mikko Koivu while Canucks scored the second through Ryan Kesler to win the game 4-2 in the end.
