Vancouver Canucks wins 4-3 against the Phoenix Coyotes in a tight and all important match for both teams
The second last game of Tuesday was hosted by Phoenix Coyotes at the Jobing.com Arena as they squared off against the league leaders, Vancouver Canucks.
Both the teams are among some of the top teams in the league and a win for either of the teams would help their cause of cementing the position they are currently in.
Canucks top the Western Conference while Coyotes are seventh.
The game started off with Coyotes starting off as the stronger of the two teams. They led 2-1 at the end of the first period.
Canucks scored twice in the second with Coyotes also scoring a goal.
The scores were level on 3-3 at the start of the final period where no goals were scored.
However, no goals were scored and the game went into overtime. During the overtime Canucks scored to win the game.
Ilya Bryzgalov of Coyotes was named the star of the game as he made 35 saves during the course of the game.
The game started off in spectacular fashion with both teams attacking right from the start of the proceedings. It didn’t take long as Coyotes took the lead with a goal in the fourth minute. The goal was scored by Eric Belanger from a well placed flick shot.
Coyotes kept on firing shots on goal and scored once again during power play during power play to double their lead. The goal was scored by Captain Shane Doan from a powerful strike. Canucks were able to respond to this by scoring in the very next minute.
The goal was scored by Dan Hamhuis from a well placed flick shot.
Canucks dominated the game during the period after this but couldn’t score as the period ended with Coyotes leading 2-1. The period saw Canucks making 16 shots on goal while Coyotes made 10 shots on goal.
The second period was evenly contested by both the teams with Canucks levelling the score as they scored in the 10th minute through Henrik Sedin. Canucks took the lead with another goal in the 13th minute as Sami Salo scored from a
decent strike.
However, Coyotes were able to come up with some productivity as well as they too scored in the final minute of the period to level the scores.
The goal was scored by Lauri Korpikoski from a superb strike. The period ended with the scores level on 3-3. During the course of the period, Canucks made 14 shots on goal while Coyotes made 15 shots on goal.
The final period didn’t have much to talk about as both teams came up with some decent shots on goal but no goals were scored. The period saw Canucks making 8 shots on goal while Coyotes made 7 shots on goal.
The regulation time period ended with the scores level on 3-3. The game went into overtime where Canucks scored through Dan Hamhuis in the third to win the game 4-3 in the end.
