Vancouver Police release riot report, mixed conclusions lead to confusion –NHL News Update
The 2011 National Hockey League (NHL) Stanley Cup Finals between Vancouver Canucks and Boston Bruins will certainly go down in history as one of the best and most thrilling series ever, but that is not the only reason why that game-seven day will always
be remembered.
Being the last matchup of one of the most surprising series till date, fans were on the edge of just exploding in joy as Vancouver Canucks were on their way to winning their first Stanley Cup championship in history of the franchise and in over 40 plus years.
Sadly, Vancouver lost and most fans went home, except a chunk that stayed afterwards to wreck havoc.
After over two months of investigation into the event, authorities from all over the country came together in order to conclude why such h**l had broken loose and why people who are normally perceived to be peaceful and quite, did what they did.
"Why did the riot occur? The riot occurred because villains and thugs acted up", former Nova Scotia deputy attorney general Douglas J. Keefe said during a press conference at a Vancouver hotel Thursday. "The more valuable question is how did they get the
edge? How did they get the opening to do that”?
According to the final report which was released on Thursday, September 1, there were 446 Vancouver police officers on duty that night, but due to the unforeseen circumstances, that number was raised to more than double (928).
It has been hard for the Vancouver Police Department (VPD), which has been under fire from not only authorities and figure from around the country but also common citizens of the city who faced loss to their businesses and peace.
In the end, it was termed to be the lack of a mutual effort from different sides, which could have cooled down the situation if they had worked in sync.
"We believe there is a role for the Vancouver Canucks to play; we believe there is a role for the National Hockey League to play", Furlong said. "We believe for there's a role for volunteers. We believe that all of the communities around -- everyone needs
to be part of the solution".
There might never be a final conclusion since the event was also not a common one of its own.
