Vancouver Pubs?

Question

I'm trying to find somewhere void of a dance floor and teeny boppers to drink with some friends on my birthday. Normally I'd do the Cambie (perfect atmosphere), but it's too busy on a Saturday night and my friends coming later would never get in. (same story with blarney stone and the burboun...) Any ideas??

Something around gastown would be best (since I'll be heading there from new amsterdam cafe), but anywhere I could get a nightbus home would work...
