Vancouver Tiger roars ahead to close finish at Swindon
Greyhounds may be dogs, but each one has the eyes of a tiger when they’re racing on the track. Like a real tiger, the racers have been known to pounce on a victory as if it was their prey.
As the dogs close in on the finish line, one usually pulls ahead of the pack, ready to make its move.
Vancouver Tiger (7-2) had the eyes of a tiger in the first 480m race of the afternoon at Swindon Greyhound Stadium in Blunsdon. He bounded out of trap six and led to first, and then came
again on the run in to win the A6 race in excellent fashion with a time of 29.64. Only ¾ lengths separated first place from second, with 2-1 favourite Tecfacs Mendit finishing the race in 29.70.
Giglis Charm (4-1) swept up third place with a 29.98 finish that placed her 3½ lengths behind Tecfacs Mendit. Fourth place went to Cefn Dart, who finished just 1½ lengths outside the top
three in 30.10. A clear run was not enough to give Corrin Touch (9-2) a win today. She finished fifth in 30.18, which was a single lengths behind Cefn Dart. Lady Roberta (9-2) was 2 lengths behind fifth place, completing the race in 30.34.
Fantastic Alfie (7-2) looked fantastic with his nice win in the A5 race that followed. A great start from trap six allowed him to lead the pack on the way to a 29.51 finish. Second place
went to Falkners Eagle (4-1), who moved slowly away from the pack, but later ran on to check in with time of 29.71. He was 2½ lengths behind the winner.
West Cork Train (7-2) ran into the station in third with a time of 29.75 that was just a ½ length behind second place. Finishing fourth was Fleeced Gina (4-1), who missed out on a top-three
finish by a head’s length. She completed the race in 29.76.
Rudinero, the 5-2 favourite, had a clear run, but raced to a disappointing fifth-place finish today, missing out on fourth place by only a ½ length. He was a substitute in trap one for
Shelbourne Holly, who did not race today. Despite holding an early pace, Rahoona Boy (5-1) had to settle for last place. His finishing time of 30.04 was 3 lengths behind Rudinero.
The dogs will chase after the elusive first-place finish again on Wednesday 22 September, when racing fans will be treated to a 12-race card. The racing action gets under way with an A6
race at 18:28.
