Vancouver Whitecaps 1-1 New England Revolution: USA Major League Soccer - Recap
USA Major League soccer is just in the opening phases of its new season as two teams Vancouver Whitecaps and New England Revolution went head to head on Thursday the 7th of April, at the Empire Field stadium, in Vancouver, British Columbia. Ilija
Stolica’s 90th minute strike leveled the matters after the home team, Vancouver Whitecaps, led for a long period of time.
The Caps went in with a standard 4-4-2 formation. Camilo Sanvezzo and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Zak-Boggs-c37787 formed a partnership
upfront. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Bobby-Shuttleworth-c7742 guarded the Revs net.
Whitecaps got the game underway and made a bright start to the game by winning a corner as early as in the second minute. New England soon settled down and slowed down the pace of the game. Harris, in the 5th minute, committed a foul which resulted
in an early yellow card for the striker.
The game then continued in the midfield as neither of the two teams were able to create any clear cut openings. Revs centre-back http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ryan-Cochrane-c31979 received a yellow card at the 13th minute mark for a foul on Camilo. Harris made some attempts to score
in the mean time but Shuttleworth did not let anything get past him.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alain-Rochat-c4232. Both teams had positive attitude towards the game but there came a massive moment of controversy when midfielder Gershon
Koffie received a straight red card for a dangerous foul on http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Pat-Phelan-c29218. Ten men Whitecaps held back Steve Nicol’s Rev as the first half ended at 0-0.
With a man down, Vancouver stayed positive and made as bright a start as they did in the first half. The second half substitute http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Eric-Hassli-c12705 made a glorious run into the box and netted his shot past Shuttleworth to justify his substitution. Home team went
1-0 ahead in the 56th minute.
The visitors on the other hand, started pressing hard and made some tactical changes but the goal looked far from their reach as Whitecaps back four stood firm. Vancouver seemed content with a 1-0 lead and tried to protect it as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/New-England-Revolution-c40026 changed
gears. Defender A. J. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Soares-c33722, in a desperate attempt to keep Harris away from extending Vancouver’s lead, committed a dangerous foul and received a straight red leaving both sides down to ten men in the 76th minute.
With just a few minutes remaining on the clock, the home team made an attempt to secure their victory by scoring another goal but their efforts resulted in a counter attack from the Revs, resulting in a late goal in the 90th minute. Both sides
looked balanced on the night but there was some late drama that spiced up the game.
This draw meant that New England move up to fourth spot while Vancouver Whitecaps land on the sixth. New England will take on http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Houston-Dynamo-c39542 on the 11th of April in their next game.
