Vancouver Whitecaps FC still have room for improvement in the final third, head coach Tom Soehn told the media after the 1-0 loss to regional rivals, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Toronto-FC-c40744, on Wednesday.
“So many things I feel like we continue to work on and look to improve,” said Soehn. “Our possession was much better, but not in the final third.”
Further adding to the post-match comments, the head coach said, “I thought in the final third we lacked some creativity. There were plenty of times where we could have served the ball in and got into the mix and made good things happen.”
Even though the Caps sustained a 65 percent ball possession, losing to a slender lead was still very disappointing. TFC’s Dutch import, Nick Soolsma, scored the only goal of the game in the 57th minute from the spot. .
While the offence left a lot to be desired, the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Davide-c10638 Chiumiento, kept the Reds’ attack at bay for most of the game.
Chiumiento is recovering from the hamstring injury he picked up last Saturday against Sporting Kansas City. However, he is likely to play in the Nutrilite Canadian Championship against the same opponents this weekend.
Including Chiumiento, Soehn made eight changes to the line-up that saw starting minutes against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sporting-89-c40576 Kansas City last week.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Omar-c28540 Sagado was the only man upfront.
“I think a lot of the guys that were getting time today, we were excited to get in there and play,” said goalkeeper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jay-Nolly-c18103. “I think our possession was great, but we just didn’t break them down enough in the final third. We didn’t put enough shots on
net.”
However, defensively the team played quite well fending the Reds offence away from their target, the keeper added.
Saturday’s match this week is another important outing for the Caps as they face TFC in the decisive leg of the NCC final. The first match ended in a 1-1 stalemate, while the originally scheduled second leg on May 27 fell victim of bad weather and as per
the NCC rules, was rescheduled to for July 2nd.
The Caps were leading the match with a 1-0 score line but according to the championship regulations, it will be restarted this week.
In reply to TFC’s new signings, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Danny-Koevermans-c10211, the head coach said, that he is waiting for summer transfer window to open. The club is in the developing stages and there is no doubt the Caps need reinforcements in forward midfield line-up.
