Vancouver Whitecaps FC lose three players in the 2011 Expansion Draft – MLS News
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Vancouver-Whitecaps-FC-c40870’s new head coach Martin Rennie has contributed little to the management since taking over the club‘s reins earlier this month. The first step Rennie took in the rearrangements was to prepare the list of unprotected players for the
2011 MLS Expansion Draft.
Three players: Jeb Brovsky, Nizar Khalfan and Bilal Duckett, lost their Whitecaps badges and moved to different clubs on Wednesday after closing of Expansion Draft.
Brovsky made it to Vancouver this year in the MLS SuperDraft, however, after running several chances, the player was unable to make a strong statement in the Caps’ roster. Brovsky's departure was a result of Rennie’s calculated risk move. The boss wished
him best of luck in his future endeavours.
Brovsky was taken by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Montreal-Impact-c39946 head coach, Jesse Marsch, as the fourth pick in the midweek Draft.
“He played a little in midfield, and then at the latter stages of the season did a good http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684 for us at right back,” club president Bob Lenarduzzi said. “Ultimately, with the system the way it is, you’re going to have to leave someone unprotected that you’d
prefer not to lose.”
During the 2011 MLS season, Khalfan showed flashes of potential for the game but his performances were not consistent during his one-year stay at Empire Stadium.
The player was picked by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Philadelphia-Union-c40231 in the Waiver Draft on Wednesday, following the Expansion Draft.
“There are times when he looks like he could be one of the better players in the league, and then there are times when he’s non-existent. In the end, it’s always going to be Martin’s call,” said Lenarduzzi.
Duckett spent his maiden season with the Caps and played a good second half of the season. However, according to Rennie, the club needs a player who can get on the field and contribute right away as opposed to a player who needs time to gain his momentum
in league play.
The Caps ended at the bottom of Western Conference points table and second to last in overall standings this season. Rennie is in the process of reinforcing the squad to avoid similar failure in the 2012 term.
