Center. He would be the 15th player in the MLS history to achieve this honour.
“It’s nice, but it’s something you look back at more so than embrace it at the moment, because you’re in the middle of a game,” Cannon said. “If I come off the pitch and lose to LA, I’m not going to be happy if it’s my 300th game, so I’ll try to make it
special, make some good saves, and let the chips fall where they may.”
There have been many ups and downs in Cannon’s 12-year MLS career. The player reached peak form in 2002 and ran through 2004, during his time with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/San-Jose-Earthquakes-c40434 and Colorado Rapids.
Cannon started his professional career with now-defunct San Diego Flash of National Premier Soccer League in 1998. After just a year, he made a jump from the third tier of US football to the MLS, joining the Quakes.
With his flamboyant performances, Cannon led the California-based team to the MLS playoffs for the first time in 2001, and eventually to the MLS Cup title. He earned the Goalkeeper of the Year award the following year.
The player caught the eye of French Ligue 1 outfit http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Colorado-Rapids-c38849.
Although Rapids were not as good a team as they are now, Cannon continued to boss his department regardless and won the Goalkeeper of the Year award again in 2004.
“In Colorado, I think I made more of an individual name for myself,” Cannon said.
In the past few years, the player has grown prone to injuries that have severely affected his play. Last year’s car accident in particular has kept him at the sidelines for the past season and 2011 preseason.
However, Cannon has recovered fully from his injuries and announced his return in the last two MLS games with a series of marvellous saves, winning against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Houston-Dynamo-c39542 and drawing 1-1 with New York Red Bulls.
