Vanes Martirosyan and Shane Mosley show how tough they are on Twitter
Boxers “Sugar” Shane Mosley and Vanes Martirosyan have taken the first steps towards a contest in the ring.
And they were on Twitter.
After failing to draw a response from Mosley (46-6, 39 KOs) for a fight, Martirosyan (28-0, 17 KOs) took to the social media site to hype his cause and engage Mosley, which proved effective.
Martirosyan tweeted at Mosley, saying “I want [to] fight Shane Mosley. Shane don’t be a b**** and fight me. Why don’t you fight me next?”
Mosley hastily responded: “Who are you, and will people pay to see it?”
After Martirosyan said he was Mosley’s “nightmare,” Mosley dismissed the challenge and directed the younger Martirosyan to fight a prospective up-and-comer or possibly even his son (Mosley’s son recently
made a debut on a Golden Boy sponsored card).
Martirosyan promptly responded by saying Mosley’s son “sucks” and that he saw him get knocked out in a golden gloves competition.
Despite the back and forth, Mosley appeared the wiser bet, smartly offering other opponents for Martirosyan such as James Kirkland or Alfredo Angulo.
Martirosyan is trained by the legendary Freddie Roach, who just returned to Los Angeles this weekend from a three week stint in the Philippines.
Roach was occupied preparing star fighter Manny Pacquiao for his 13 November bout with Antonio Margarito. Pacquiao has since come along to Los Angeles, to continue training at Roach’s Wild Card boxing
gym.
It is expected that Roach will utilize Martirosyan as a sparring partner, as Martirosyan fights at the junior middleweight level and by most accounts Pacquiao needs all the sparring help he can get with
bigger opponents that resemble Margarito.
Sugar Shane is coming off a depressing draw with contender Sergio Mora, in which there was nothing sweet about his performance. In his last four bouts Mosley boasts two wins, a loss to Floyd Mayweather
Jr., and a draw. The last time he looked remarkable was against Antonio Margarito in January 2009.
