Vania King flashes past Ashleigh Barty in the qualifiers – Brisbane International 2012
Qualifying top seed, Vania King, eases through a local wild card enterer, Ashleigh Barty, with a breadstick at the Brisbane International 2012, a WTA International event held on the hard courts in Brisbane, Australia. She quickly jolted down a 6-1,
6-2 victory over the Aussie to advance into the second round of the qualifiers on Friday.
World number 76, King, showed brilliant skills and abilities from her box of trick to crush the Aussie, ranked 603 spots below her in the WTA Premier Rankings, in an hour on their first meeting.
The American breezed into the opening set and after plucking six games through massive forehands, she eventually pocketed a breadstick. She brushed off the only breakpoint she came across and converted three out of eight break chances to her advantage.
King also clobbered a much higher first serve share of 74 percent as compared to the local star’s 50 percent and earned an a superb 71 percent win on it.
The American rising starlet kept momentum floating into the final set and swiftly went 4-1 up before Barty could hold on again. Later, King wiped out last two games and clinched the set with a 6-2 score line. She faced not a single breakpoint and cashed
in both break opportunities to her advantage. The seed again formulated a higher first serve share of 74 percent as compared to Barty’s 62 percent and registered an exceptional 62 percent win on it.
The top seed will next face the winner of the match between Aussie Anastasia Rodionova and Hungarian Reka-Luca Jani. Third seed, Vera Dushevina, will be awaiting King in the second round of the qualifiers. The Russian dumped a local wild card entrant,
Isabella Holland, in straight sets in one hour and 22 minutes to reach this spot.
Dushevina brushed off seven out of ten breakpoints she faced and capitalised on five out of eleven break opportunities to seal the deal with a 6-3, 6-4 victory. She will next face Italian Karin Knapp who bounced over Japanese Misaki Doi in a three
setter nail biter match. Knapp formulated a 3-6, 7-5, 6-2 score line in two hours and 18 minutes to set-up this clash.
Everyone will be praying to see Nadal in action in 2012, so that the intensity of winning the number one spot in the world is boosted.
