Vania King triumphs over Kimiko Date-Krumm in 1st round – Hansol Korea Open 2011
American Vania King triumphed against Japanese Kimiko Date-Krumm in the opening round match of the Hansol Korea Open 2011. The two battled it out on the hard courts of Olympic Tennis Courts in Seoul, South Korea on the 20th of
September 2011. After one hour and twenty one minutes of play, unseeded King won in straight sets of 6-2, 6-2 victory.
The pitch was won by King and the two held serve for the first two games and successfully put themselves on the score board at 1-1.
During the following two games the players again won on alternate serves to round off the score at 2-2.
By the end of the fifth game the score was 3-2 as King had managed to hold her serve but in the sixth game she went on to breaking Date-Krumm to take a mini lead of 4-2.
Seventh game was again easily won by King as she smashed an ace at 40-love and clenched the game without much opposition.
The final game was being served by Date-Krumm, while she was serving to stay in the set, King was looking for the second and last opportunity to break her adversary and as Date-Krumm’s forehand netted on her second serve, she erred
and bestowed King with the opening set.
Serving for the second set was again King and the two players held serve for the initial two games to equalize the score at 1-1.
In the third and fourth game the players broke each other back to back, not letting the other to take an upper hand and the score was balanced at 2-2.
Fifth game was bagged by King as she expertly bagged her service game and was now one game ahead of her Japanese opponent.
After taking the mini lead, King went on to capitalize on a break point in the sixth game going a game and a break up, leading with 4-2.
American King secured her victory as again she held her serve in the seventh game and in the eighth game, As Date-Krumm’s forehand landed outside the court during the rally, she looked disappointed because she had lost the set
with a 2-6.
Mean while, King could not contain her happiness and managed to win the second set and the match to secure a berth in the second round.
