Vans US Open of Surfing all set to kick-off at Huntington Beach this weekend – Surfing news
The American surfing talent will find themselves taking on the exciting talent from around the globe at the upcoming 2013 Vans US Open of Surfing, the fourth of eight events on this year’s Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Prime calendar, which
is scheduled to get underway at Huntington Beach Pier in California, America, from Saturday, July 20.
The iconic main event site has delivered excellent conditions for surfing competitions in the past and is expected to live up to its reputation during the course of the upcoming event as well.
The competition is bound to be nothing short of spectacular, especially with 20 ASP World Championship Tour surfers being part of the field that will be battling it out for success at Vans US Open of Surfing.
With millions of fans expected to follow every second of the event live, the surfers will be surely planning on holding nothing back and digging deep into their bag of tricks to keep the fans entertained through a series of exquisite performances.
Florida’s C.J. Hobgood, 2007 US Open Champion and current No.9 on the ASP World rankings, admitted that it was indeed a pinnacle moment in any professional surfer’s career to claim top honours in front of millions of passionate fans at an event that has
an incredible history.
California’s Tanner Gudauskas, ASP World No.30, called it an honour to be competing in the US Open, as he, like many other surfers, had grown up watching some of the best in the business perform in the event.
“For us competing in the US Open has been an honour,” Gudauskas said. “It was something that we would always ask our parents to take us to when we were kids just so we could get autographs and see our favourite surfers in real life. So to me it would be
a huge deal to do well. The circus that surrounds the event just seems to heighten the surfing and pushes the level. I’ve always had a blast when competing in the event and had a couple really special moments competitively here!”
Running from July 20 through 28, the Vans US Open of Surfing is expected to deliver a heavy dose of entertainment to fans of the sport.
