Has anyone been to this island?

No but I have been to the nearby Gilbert Islands - Kiribati and a few of the outlying atolls.  They are beautiful and remote.  Its like being in a Bounty advert in some places although the built up areas are rough - with a lot of rubbish and no sewage processing - they do it in the see which is troublesome around the built up areas - but the population is small.  True to say there is a lot of poverty but they have strong family ties although underneath it all there is tribal violence and local law 'eye for an eye' and all that.......

I have also been to Nauru - famed for being destroyed by British mining.  Nauru is like a huge construction site.

I believe Van is more accessible than either of these with a good amount of westerners staying there.
