Raphael Varane were given a surprise call-up as Real Madrid took on the challenge of the Premier League champions, Manchester City.
Since the champions of two of the greatest footballing nations were colliding, there were a lot of expectations attached from the fixture.

Right before the full-time whistle, the Portuguese skipper, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Joe-Hart-c18699 and found the back of the net.
During this outstanding footballing fixture, there was one player who was quite surprised when he got a call-up for the first team, the French centre-back, Raphael Varane.
Jose Mourinho decided to choose the French defender over the Spanish star, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sergio-Ramos-c33096, who is considered to be an integral part of the Real Madrid set-up.
While speaking about the surprise call-up against Manchester City, Varane said:
“I was surprised to play because I have not had a good pre-season and I’ve not been in the side until today, although I know I have the confidence of Mourinho, but that’s life and that’s football.”
The young defender also spoke on behalf of his team as how the players are happy about the win against the current Premier League champions.
While speaking about the fixture, the French star said:
“We are happy to have won such a difficult game 3-2 and it was hard towards the end.
“Even so, it’s three points to begin with and that’s very good.”
Madrid will be taking on the challenge of Ajax and Borussia Dortmund as well, as the UEFA Champions League group stage is going to continue eventually.
