Vardas Supreme favourite for Ann And Brian Everett Golden Wedding Anniversary Handicap Chase
Vardas Supreme will be looking to surprise his opponents in the Ann And Brian Everett Golden Wedding Anniversary Handicap Chase at Catterick in England on Wednesday, December 5, 2012.
The seasoned gelding has never managed to succeed in this format and has got a very good chance of breaking the shackles this time around. He will not find things to be easy though and will have to earn his way to the top.
He has mostly enjoyed running in rain affected races throughout his career and will be under a similar situation today, as there have been a few showers at Catterick over the past couple of days.
The conditions were quite wet in the morning, but the going has improved because of the sunshine. The organisers have described the ground as good to soft and that can still get better before the start of action at 13:20 GMT.
A total of 13 contestants have lined up for action in the 2 mile, 3 furlong competition and their stamina will be put to a stern test, especially because of the wet rack in some places.
However, all of the participants will be looking forward to entertain the spectators with their skills, as they have been trained to cope up witch such circumstances. The winner of the class-5 encounter will be awarded a cash prize of £2,395 in the end.
Doberdan has been given the highest odds for a victory, despite the fact that his performances over fences have not been much impressive. His opponents are not in a very good position either, which will still help him get the attention of the punters.
The seven-year-old gelding has appeared in nine chase events, winning one of them whereas finished as a runner on the same number of times. He did a very good job in his most recent race, which will boost his confidence today.
On the other hand, Vardas Supreme has got more experience of running over fences, but he has never been able to taste success in this format. He has had a few reasonably good moments, but they were not enough for him to take the top spot.
The Joanne Foster’s trainee is a hard worker though and will definitely look to break the shackles under jockey, Samantha Drake.
