Question:

Variations in blood sugar levels?

I am 37 weeks pregnant and my blood sugar has been a bit high. I have been monitoring it for the past week, and noticed something odd. On the weekends when I get plenty of rest/sleep, my blood sugar is perfectly normal. However, during the week when I get 1-2 hours of sleep every 1-2 days, it goes up. I work 40+ hours a week at a very stressful job and get very little sleep. Has anyone else ever had this happen? I see my ob on thursday, and it seems that it would make more sense to address my insomnia/stress level than to prescribe insulin.

  1. The more time you spend awake the more you are likely to eat because you will notice that you are hungry... whereas you are sleeping you won't notice that you are hungry until you wake up. Getting 1-2 hours of sleep every 1-2 days is not healthy and is especially not wise when you are pregnant. Ask your doctor about sleep aids that you can take while you are pregnant because you NEED sleep.
