Hey, so right now I'm age 14. ( I just turned 14 a couple days ago, august 11th. ) Anyway I really want to make varsity in 9th grade and wondering what my stats should be? I'm very fast, my endurance is high, I run about a 5:30 mile and 4.7 40. I'm 6'2 and 168 lbs. I bench about 200, and I know the game like the back of my hand and I love to hit. Right now I get about 80% of my teams tackles every game and I'm the fastest on the team. - the problem is I don't know if I'm bulky enough, what weight should I shoot for and bench?

  1. dude, you're stats are very good to be honest with you.. I played center in a 5A varsity team in South Texas at 185, 190 lbs.. Thye might put you at outside linebacker becuase of your speed, but 80% of your teams tackles is a whole h**l of a lot.  Keep workin on your form, & strength & abliity to evade blockers.. rips, swims, etc.  Yeah work on your strength & bulk up a little more.. 170-180 is really good weight for a freshman, & you're speed is decent.. You'll get faster & stronger so don't worry. just keep workin, good luck :)

  2. You're only 14.  Continue to do what you're doing.  You will naturally get bigger and stronger.  Being 6' 2" already is a huge advantage.

An ideal linebacker would be between 205 and 235.  You'll get there.  Don't try to push it now.  Trying to "force" weight when you are too young to hold it only leads to injuries.

In my day, Freshmen didn't play varsity football EVER.  Good luck to you.  I hope that you make the varsity.
