i want to make varsity fall volleyball. i am a freshman and was on jv team last fall. i just finished club season and over the summer i will go to penn state camp, gold medal squared camp, and an army west point camp. i feel like in order to achieve my long term goal (playing college) i need to make the team. does this sound varsity ready?

9 out of 10 serves in

10 out of 10 sets to target

8 out of 10 passes to target

and 7 out of 10 hits in

the problem is i tend to choke under pressure, any tips for confidence? tryouts? practicing on my own? conditioning?

  1. Mental preparedness makes very good volleyball players. The only way you can handle he pressure is to relax and the game for what it is = a game. Have fun with it and listen to all your coaches. If you learn at least one good play or skill from every coach then you will be prepared from the physical perspective. Mental you learn from everyday life and being positive at everything.

Have fun - life is too short.

    Something to think about:

Hustle beats talent when talent does not hustle.

  2. hitting could be a bit better...but pretty good all around.

to be more confident, dont worry about making the varsity team. just go there and have fun. just pretend like youre playing beach volleyball with your friends or something like that.

for try-outs, wear a colored shirt, but not too bright, just so you stand out a bit.

if you have a volleyball at home, set and pass to yourself.do 1 set of 100 setting. 1 set of 100 passing. and 1 set of 100 setting/passing.  if you have a space (inside or outside), hit against the wall.

conditioning: do squats, lunges, etc. anything that focuses on your legs, your core, and your arms.

    hope i helped.

  3. ya it does just be confedent

  4. from a varsity player standpoint, i would not be that excited with your stats, but don't get down. your hits should be with a block up, and with people defending, because, if it is just open net, you can get all your hits in. also, it the passes are free ball passes, not hits, i would not be surprised. take stats during a match to determine how good you really are. for hitting, find your hitting percent by taking the number of kills, minus the number of errors, all divided by the number of attempts. for serves, it should be the number of serves per game, and your service rating (aces minus missed serves).

for confidence, just focus, not on making mistakes, but on playing your game. same with tryouts, just play your game. for conditioning, there are books on amazon.com that are specifically for volleyball conditioning, and are less than $20. some also have tips for practicing at home. mainly go and have fun.

  5. just be confident.....be yourself in the court

practice on your own its better to built your confidence,

like find a court that you can play on your own

do some exercises with weight and bicycling.......

this what I do till the games begin, on october.....to get ready

with more confidence and self power!!!!!!!!!!

    good luck!!!

  6. i think this is good but your hit. you should have 8 out 10

  7. Yeah well i know wat u mean it seems so haRd to go in there and pretty much let the coaches judge ur skill. but if u just go in there and play ball then u will do great. if its a sport u love and are great at then dont worry about anything just be calm and play hard....GOOD LUCK!
