Question:

Varying impedances acceptable?

I have 3 12W3v2s (8 ohm model). There's a possibility that one of the subs needs to be replaced. I found a good deal on a 12W3v3 but it is the 4 ohm model. Is it possible to run the 4 ohm model with the two 2 ohm subs? If this is possible, what are the pros and cons and how should it be done.

If not, does anyone have a 12W3v3 8 ohm model to part with?

Thanks,

Ryan

  1. In addition to the previous persons post, if you look at the different models 2,4, and 8 ohm, one of them is supposed to be in a different sized box.  I can't remember if it is 4 or 8, but you would have a problem.  I run the 2 ohm subs to separate mono block amps, and I remember when I was specking out the system, either the 4 or the 8 ohm requires an additional .25 cubic air space in a sealed enclosure.

  2. You could do this but it wouldn't be a good idea.  The problem is that with a sub with a different impedance you will have uneven power distribution.  So the 4 ohm sub would be getting more power then the other two subs.

If you did have seperate amps running all the subs you could get it to work.  You would have one kind of amp for the two subs then another kind of amp for the 4 ohm sub.

As long as you get even power to all your subs you will be fine.

    Good Luck!!!

  3. Unless you have a seperate amp on each woofer, this is something you cant do. If you had one on each sub, you could just adjust the gain levels accordingly, but if not, dont get the that.

    sorry bro, check ebay

    Cheers
