  1. Such stories are very very rare.  Although doctors claim 80% success, the real numbers are about 25%.  The reson is they claim success if any time sperm is present in his s***n.  The truth is, most of the time  the sperm are too weak to cause a pregantcy.  That is why most successful pregantcies take 2-3 years and that is with assitance (IVF).

  2. Read this site to start:

For many years doctors thought that the farther out you are from the vasectomy, the lower your chances for success. Many of the world's experts still think this is true. A study of our own patient's success rates shows that here at ICVR time actually plays no role in the outcome of a vasectomy reversal. Therefore it is wrong to impose an arbitrary time limit on when a reversal will work or when it will not. At our Center, you can expect a minimum of 90% and as high as 96% success, whether you are 2 or 42 years out from your vasectomy. Statistics are great at predicting the success for a large population of men, but note very accurate at telling an individual what his specific chances of success will be. No one can accurately predict the future for an individual. Yes, it is true that the longer the system is blocked, the odds gradually increase that damage may occur in the delicate tubules of the epididymis. Even with this, you can still expect a 90 % to 96% success at ICVR; successes in men who were told very bluntly by very good urologists that it was impossible for them to have a successful reversal.

I don't know why people with no medical knowledge post about these sorts of topics.

Fertility And Pregnancy Results for Dr. Silber http://www.infertile.com/infertility-tre...

The statistics reported in this information are based strictly on surgeries performed by Dr. Silber on over 6,000 patients and do not reflect results of other surgeons. These statistics are not estimates, or guesses, but represent an accurate tabulation of the results in those patients he has already operated on.

       1. In patients with no epididymal obstruction, 98% develop normal sperm count and sperm motility, indicating fertility. 88% achieve pregnancy without further treatment.

       2. Contrary to general myth, the duration of time since vasectomy does not significantly affect the success rate.

       3. The success rate for those patients who have had previous unsuccessful surgery elsewhere and come here for a re-operation, is no different from patients who are undergoing vasectomy reversal here for the first time.

Read the literature. See the links below:

  3. My sister's husband had a vasectomy before they met as he didn't want any more children (his previous girlfriend had gotten pregnant without telling him to keep him).  Anyhow, seven years later they reversed it, and, TA-DAAAA - we had swimmers!  Unfortunately my sister just can't produce any good eggs even on IVF, but if she could, they would have a baby.
