Vasectomy?

My husband and I have decided that we don't want any more children and that he should get a vasectomy. Now he is a Marine and says that he doesn't think the military will cover it because he is too young. I was wondering if anybody knows the age requirements in order to get a vasectomy through the military?

  1. Why don't you just get an IUD? just for in case if you guys change your mind later on down the road, they last for up to 10 yrs, the paraguard anyway, and there is another type the mirena and lasts for up to 5 yrs. they are so wonderful, talk to your doctor about it, i have had one now for 2 years and i love it..........

  2. Your husband is 23, that is too young.

here, you can't get one until you're 25 OR have 3 children.

  3. I don't know the age requirement. I have plenty of military friends who have had it done on the governments dime so I know they will pay for it. Have him talk to his doc. I know for women it's 25 if you have kids and 28 if you don't have any. I hope that helps.

  4. The Air force policy used to me 30, with two kids.  They looked at me pretty funny because I had mine done at 21 with no children.  I am pretty sure that the policy will vary from one military installation to the next.  Last I heard 25 was typical.  All he has to do is ask the hospital administration.

Policy is usually set by some administrator enforcing his or her own brand of morals, or sometimes it is just the availability of a surgeon, and facilities.

  5. A vasectomy is a voluntary surgery so the military is not going to cover it.  Your husband will need to go to a private clinic for this surgery.  A vasectomy is a very simple surgery and doesn't cost all the much.

    Good luck!

  6. It normally does depend on age and how many children you have.  Usually as long as you are over 25 and have at least one child they will perform a vasectomy since it has such a high reversal success rate.  It's usually a young woman with none or 1 child that they will refuse to perform the tube tying procedure.  I'd say he shouldn't have any issue, but you could always call the benefits division of your medical coverage and find out specifics.  Or at least call the Dr.'s office where he would like to go.  The procedure would probably be done right there in office anyways.  Good Luck..

  7. I don't know about the military, but I know doctors often turn men away if they are young, but if you already have children it should counteract that.  Good luck!

  8. My brother is in the military and just got his done about a year and a half ago. 100% paid for. He is 28 now.
