Vasek Pospisil and Fritz Wolmarans move into the semi-finals of 2011 Rimouski Challenger Tour
Vasek Pospisil vs. Matteo Viola
Canadian Vasek Pospisil, 346th in the world, ousted Matteo Viola of Italy in two straight sets 6-4, 6-4 in the quarterfinals of 2011 Rimouski Challenger tour at Rimouski, Canada. It took one hour and twenty five minutes for the
Canadian to ensure his attendance at the semi-finals.
Playing their first match ever, both the players looked relatively in form, with Pospisil landing in 60 per cent of his first serve and the Italian managing a slightly better 74 per cent. Pospisil managed to convert 80 per cent
of his correct first serves into points. His opponent managed 71 per cent and the difference proved to be critical in deciding the after-effects. Pospisil took advantage of his first serves points, and that handed him the set 6-4
The second set followed the same suit as the Canadian’s winning momentum forced the Italian to surrender again. Pospisil played equally well in the second set as he landed in 2 aces and won a whopping 89 percent of his first serves.
On the other hand Viola failed to hit a single ace and won a meager 62 percent of his first serves. Being broken by Pospisil in the seventh game, Viola handed over the match with 6-4 defeat in the second set.
Fritz Wolmarans vs. Kevin Kim
South African Fritz Wolmarans, a fifth seed here, crushed Kevin Kim of America in straight sets 6-1, 6-2 in the quarterfinals. It took just forty six minutes for the South African to assure his presence at the semi-finals.
In their first meeting ever on the court, Wolmarans looked very enthusiastic about the first set. He served 56 per cent on target and managed to convert a whopping 90 per cent of points from them. His opponent Kim only managed
to win a meager 44 per cent on his first serves.
Being broken by the South African in the seventh game, Kim suffered a breadstick defeat in the first set.
The second set was moreover the same as the American did not put any pressure on his opponent and handed over the match with 6-2 defeat.
Wolmarans served 76 per cent of the first set winning a whopping 81 per cent points on them. Whereas his opponent lagged far behind with a meager 58 per cent on his first serves.
