Vasek Pospisil and Matteo Viola move into the quarterfinals of 2011 Rimouski Challenger Tour
Vasek Pospisil vs. Charles-Antoine Brezac
Canadian Vasek Pospisil, 346th in the world, ousted Charles Antoine Brezac of France in straight sets 6-3, 6-2 in the third round of 2011 Rimouski Challenger tour at Rimouski, Canada. It took one hour and thirteen minutes for the Canadian to ensure his attendance at the quarterfinals.
For their first meeting on court both the players looked relatively in form, with the French landing in 58 per cent of his first serve and the Canadian managing a slightly better 60 per cent. The Canadian managed to convert 89 per cent of his correct first serves into points for himself. His opponent managed a poor 67 per cent and the difference proved to be critical in deciding the after-effects. Canadian took advantage of his first serves points, and that handed him the set 6-3
The second set followed the same suit as the Canadian’s winning momentum forced the French to surrender again. The Canadian played equally well in the second set as he landed in 8 aces and won a whopping 75 percent of his first serves. On the other hand Brezac failed to hit a single ace and won a meager 38 percent of his first serves. Being broken by the Canadian in the eighth game, Brezac handed over the match with 2-6 defeat in the second set.
Matteo Viola vs. Jordan Cox
Italian Matteo Viola, a third seed here, crushed Jordan Cox of America in straight sets 6-1, 6-4 in their third round match. It took one hour and nineteen minutes for the Italian to assure his presence at the quarterfinals.
Their first meeting on the courts, Italian looked very enthusiastic about the first set. He served 73 per cent on target and managed to convert the same to points. His opponent Cox only managed to win a meager 50 per cent on his first serves. The Italian saved 100 per cent of the breakpoints compared to his opponent’s 50 per cent.
Being broken by the Italian in the seventh game, Cox suffered a breadstick defeat in the first set.
The second set saw the American exhibiting resistance to his Italian opponent however he only landed with 55 per cent of his first serves. But examining the serve quality of both contenders, Viola had a clear edge over the American again. The Italian had a meritorious serve percentage of 71 in the second set while Cox lagged far behind with 59 per cent. Viola was able to clinch a 6-4 win for himself..
