Vasek Pospisil is pumped up to partner with Daniel Nestor in Olympics 2012 – Tennis News
World number 103, Vasek Pospisil, was announced to team up with the doubles world number one, Daniel Nestor, to represent Canada in the upcoming London Olympics 2012. It was not a major surprise for anyone because the 21-year-old
Canadian was the most expected player to carry his country’s hope and help the legendary doubles specialist, Nestor, in their hunt to win a gold medal. Pospisil wasn’t surprised from the news as well. He was called by Nestor earlier in March and the news was
unleashed to him at that time.
Talking about the Olympics campaign, the young gun from Canada stated, “I think I was in the Toronto airport and he just called and said he wanted to let me know he was choosing me to play with him in the Olympics. I was really
happy and excited and I thanked him right away. I wouldn't say it was a surprise that he chose me but I was unsure. I was thinking it was more of like a coin toss between me and Milos Raonic. Milos is higher ranked in singles and he's been having incredible
results on the singles court but, obviously, doubles is a different game and I knew maybe I had that little advantage there."
On June 23rd, the Canadian youngster will celebrate his 22nd birthday. He is still young at an elite platform and finding such a marvellous opportunity at infant stages of his career. He has teamed up with
the legendary tennis icon, Nestor, in two Davis Cup doubles matches and won both of them. So, they are expected to provide similar performances in the upcoming Eastbourne tournament as well.
Pospisil will contest in Wimbledon and four other tourneys before the start of the London Olympics. So, it is going to be a very tiring grass court season for him. However, there were no double thoughts from him when he was awarded
an opportunity to be an Olympian. He believes that it will be a majestic opportunity for him to prove his worth and help the reigning doubles world number one compatriot in the Olympic Gold Medal campaign. He has as strong belief that the Canadian duo will
bring some glory to the home crowd with pleasant surprises. There is no pressure on him at all and he just wants to play and give everything he has got for the accomplishment of the ultimate goal. He has been a part of Grand Slam tournaments before so he believes
that there will be no nerves at all.
