Vasek Pospisil outshines Frederik Nielsen in 2nd round – Knoxville Challenger 2011
Fifth seeded Canadian Vasek Pospisil terminated unseeded Danish Frederik Nielsen in the second round of the Knoxville Challenger 2011.
The two rivals battled against each other on indoor hard courts of the University of Tennessee’s Goodfriend Tennis Center in Knoxville, Tennessee, USA. After a couple of hours and few minutes, the fifth seeded Canadian routed the
unseeded Danish in straight sets of 6-1, 6-2 on Thursday the 10th of November 2011.
Both the sets of the match were a clear lopsided victory for Pospisil, however, the opening set was a near flawless victory. During the opening set Pospisil had managed to bag 79 percent of his first service points along with,
a grand 83 percent of his second service points. In addition, Pospisil was a stronger player and did not setup a single breakpoint opportunity for his adversary. Moreover, his defence was as strong as an ox which aided him in attaining an above average 58
percent of his total return points.
Pospisil had decided to open the first round of the match and he scooped off two straight games against his adversary to place himself on the scoreboard with a mini lead of 2-0. He further increased his lead as he held his serve
in the third game. Although Nielsen tried to make a return with a hold of serve, he was unable to close the deficit in the entire set.
Nevertheless, Pospisil not only bagged his service games but also most of his opponent’s service games. The fifth seeded Canadian benefitted from a second breakpoint in the sixth game and as he served for the match in the seventh,
he smashed a marvellous backhand winner down the line to secure the opening set with a breadstick victory.
As Pospisil dominated the first set, he set the pitch for the second and although, he had dropped a notch in his serve and return, he was still way better than his opponent, who had a pitiable return and serve.
Inaugurating the second set was Nielsen and this time both the players had managed to hold their service games and both the players placed themselves on the scoreboard at 1-1. In the third game Nielsen had double faulted on his
second serve and endorsed an important game to his adversary.
On the other hand, Pospisil had once again squandered two successive games to take a mini lead of 3-1 at the end of the fourth game. He once more repeated the feat and was now only a game away from victory. However, he was unable
to close out the match in the following game but nonetheless, did so in the eighth game by restricting his opponent to only two games in the entire set.
Pospisil clogged the match and reserved a spot in the quarterfinal of the event where he will be facing American Jesse Levine.
