Question:

Vaseline on Tattoo's?

Is it good to add vaseline to healing tattoo's? My tattoo artist advised me to put tattoo on my skin and constantly keep it moisturized.

Saturday will be a week that I have it and it's now very itchy and I am not scratching it. The skin is also started to come off as well (peel) and I am letting that come off on its own as well.

  1. No. It will draw the ink out. Your tattoo artist is an idiot.

  2. really all you need to put on it now is unscented lotion. DO NOT use vaseline as it draws the color out.

  3. I have two tattoos and I was never told to put Vaseline on a tattoo...  One tattoo artist had me put ointment (it was like vitamin D for babies or something like that) on my tattoo and another had me put Lubriderm fragrance free lotion on.  I didn't like the ointment at all, so I went back to the Lubriderm fragrance free lotion and both of my tattoos came out fine.  However, it MUST be frangrance free!  But you do definitely want to constantly moisturize it.  And don't peel at all.  Sounds like you're doing everything right so far!  :)

  4. please please please do NOT put vaseline on your tattoo! it blocks the pores and doesnt allow the skin to breath like it needs to in order to heal properly. switch to a&d for a few days and then just use a good moisturizing lotion to keep it from drying out and flaking too much. if the skin is itchy, its too dry!

  5. its part of the healing process i advise you to but on som a+d ointment

it will moisturize and help heal

  6. The best thing to put on tattoos is savlon cream! I know from experience and that is what I was always advised by my tattooist to put on them! congrats on the tattoo! I have 6 now =]

  7. Use Savlon thats what my mate advised. (hes a tattoo artist)

  8. The one the first chick was talking about is bepanthem, it's usually used for babies with nappy rash but it does definitely help, my mum has 5 tattoos and on each one she has used it, the first one she got was about 8 years ago and it's still pretty shiny and what not. So just use the bepanthem, if you don't have any maybe ask a friend if you could borrow any or you could just buy it and then when you've used the amount you want give it to someone with a baby or use for future tats

  9. no! no! no!

a&d oinment the first 5 days regular lotion the next 5-10 days until all flakes have come off

  10. Yes, vaseline or A & D ointment. It's normal to peel & itch.

  11. the best cream i heard starts with a B betha... something its a cream for babies... thats wat my tatooist told me...

  12. i heard the same thing well that it is good for you! try it and let me know! Congrats on the new tat

  13. I would never advise vasaline in a tattoo.

Yes keep it moist to a certain point but not to much,  I have over 60 hours ink on me so far and have have very few scabs when they are healing  I do this by:

Washing the tattoo 3 times a day in the hottest water i can stand(opens the pours to cleanse) then rinse it in ice cold water to close the pours up again. Then patt dry and allow the air to dry for about 15 mins. I then apply a very light coating og preperation h gel (pile cream)  I have tried tattoo goo, savlon blah blah .......preperation h is the best.  after 4 or 5 days or so I then use a cream with vitamin E in Like a aloe vera after sun .

I rarely scab doing this, and my colours are very bright and the tattooes have healed perfectly

    Good luck
