Vasilic plays well in the U.S. Women's Amateur
Jessica Vasilic is going strong in the ongoing U.S. Women's Amateur. She qualified with ease and is now playing in the round of 32, the second round of the event.
Vasilic is a golf nut. Expressing her love for the game, she said, “There’s nothing like playing an independent game like golf. You win on your own and lose on your own”.
She played a great game in the qualifying round and was placed in the 39th position. From this position, it was clear that Vasilic will offer a great game in the first round of the tournament.
In the first round, she was paired with Yueer Feng from China. The match turned out to be exciting with both Feng and Vasilic vying for the first place.
The tussle continued throughout the match and both players played a great game. Till the tenth hole, it was not clear who will win the game. However, at the 10th hole, Vasilic suddenly moved ahead and grabbed the advantage. From them onwards,
it was her game.
Feng did put up a fight but Vasilic had the upper hand. She scored four holes back-to-back and sealed her win in the process. From the 10th hole till the 13th, Feng could only stand and watch as Vasilic won at each hole.
Vasilic will now face Diana Fernandez in the round of 32. Diana Fernandez comes from Paraguay and barely managed to clear the qualifying round.
However, she staged an upset in the first round, when she played against the Canada’s Brogan McKinnon. The match appeared to be easy and many experts had already said that McKinnon will easily win the match.
The final result was very different. Fernandez played an excellent game and won by a huge margin of 19 holes.
As the players progress along the tournament, the matches will get exciting. The first round is merely a formality where the weaker players who manage to slip past the qualifying round get eliminated.
The stage of 64 has already seen its share of upsets. The next stage of 32 will determine the top players who will then play in the stage of 16. This stage will be vital for all the players, as the winners will go into the quarter finals.
