Vasily Artemyev scores try hat-trick on his Premiership debut for Northampton Saints – Rugby News
Russian international Rugby Union player, Vasily Artemyev, has made a remarkable Anglo Welsh debut for Northampton Saints by bagging a try hat-trick. Artemyev is a professional Rugby Union player, who plays for the Russian Professional Rugby Union side,
VVA-Podmoskovye. He recently joined Saints during the off season.
Artemyev was part of the Russian 2011 Rugby World Cup’s (RWC) 30-man squad. He was given a chance in the match in the absence of Saints first choice winger Chris Ashton. Ashton has been given a one-week break after England’s 2011 RWC campaign.
Northampton Saints hosted Saracens as part of their Anglo Welsh cup campaign at Franklin Gardens, Northampton. Both teams were playing their first match of the competition, as Saints earned a bonus point victory over the Sarries, who sink to the last position
in Pool A after their massive 30-point margin defeat.
Artemyev has expressed his delight on his impressive debut for the Saints. He added that he dreamt about scoring a try before the game while talking to
Northampton Chronicle on Monday, October 17.
The 24-year-old Artemyev praised the Saints’ forwards line and termed the experience of playing behind the strong forwards lineup as very enjoyable. He added, “We created such good momentum going forward and finishing those tries at the end of the day wasn't
the hardest thing in the world.”
In replying to a question, regarding his experience of the playing and competing in New Zealand and Rugby World Cup tournament respectively, Artemyev, termed it as “most valuable”. He added, “The experience I had at the World Cup, playing in those high-intensity
games was amazing, especially against Italy, Ireland and Australia.”
Russia ended on the bottom of the Pool C of the 2011 RWC. They lost all of their four pool matches and ended their campaign with a just a single point.
In replying to a question, regarding his plans for the season, Artemyev has denied any long-term plans and expressed his desire to remain a member of the squad for the next game. He expressed his hope that he will maintain his fitness level and continue
to deliver good performances in the Saints future games of the season.
