Hi all, since i have had my vauxhall corsa in april this year it has been bugging me that the temperature gauge seems to exceed what i thought would be the normal temperature for it to run at. Starts fine, 20 minutes into a journey the temp will be at 100 degrees (not overheating or on the red) and it stays there unless I'm in traffic or just pull up and leave the engine running, if i pull up and leave the engine running, the temperature rises past 100 and creeps towards the red where the fan kicks in just before the red, the car does not overheat as the fan takes the temperature down below 100, but as soon as the fan cuts out the temperature starts rising again and the same happens again. I'm no mechanic and am only 17, this is my first car so i saw people asking questions and getting relatively good answers so was just wondering if anyone out there can tell me what is up with it from the description i have given??? please help lol??? ive been told it could be thermostat ??? expensive to fix??? thanks :-s

  1. your normal operating temperature should be 160-180 degrees if this makes you a little nervous you can request a thermostat for a higher temperature 185-195 degrees ..............if you would like to learn about cars check out autozone.com they may have your online repair manual  to help you ...........thermostat cost about 3.00-10.00 and most are easy to get to......i would really try to find the repair manual to help you learn because repair shops are expensive
