Vauxhall Astra takes over Rolls Royce at Dunhill Championship 2010
It’s a generally accepted norm that golfers would go out and buy themselves some good looking wheels after a tour in celebration. While some golfers like Rory Mcllory went out to buy Rolls Royce for themselves, John Parry bought
himself a Vauxhall Astra after his first tours victory.
The brigade went for a match at the St. Andrews golf club of the Dunhill Championship and soon found the Rolls Royce taken over by the Vauxhall Astra. John Parry at the third round of the Dunhill Championship held the top spot
after shooting an amazing 65 with a 7 under. The twenty three year old held a four shot lead over his fellow from the Ryder cup, Rory Mcllory.
This championship is one of the most lucrative European tournaments in golf. The world number nine stands at the leading position after shooting an impressive 12 under in total. The Vauxhall Astra owner held the lead and showed
impressive form even though the course presented the most miserable conditions.
The twenty three year old also explained why he chose a car worth 50 grand only after turning up at the driveway with a Vauxhall Astra. He had smilingly declared that the car looks alright but his parking isn’t that good. He said
that it’s been only a while since he had learnt to drive and his insurance companies weren’t that happy when they heard about this.
Where Parry is 12 under, an 8 under Martin Erlandsson is running for the top position behing him. The man from Sweden achieved a total of 136 after playing his rounds. Other than Erlandsson, Ross Fisher and Martin Kaymer are standing
5 strokes back of the leader Parry. The five shot deficit currently resides with those who were members of the winning team of the Ryder Cup. Graeme McDowell who was known as the golfer who played for the win at Celtic Manor is standing another stroke back
in the chasing pack.
Mcllory saw Parry’s game and ended up being highly impressed. He said that Parry is one of those players who can play really well and by “well” he meant solid. Comparing him with the rest of the Ryder Team Mcllory said that Parry
can assure you he’s playing a game he knows well. Mcllory feels great to see Parry perform this good.
Mcllory impressive exclamations seem true after taking a look at the leader board statistics. Parry managed to play a score of 65 when Mcllory carded a massive 72 with a 2 over par.
Parry is the winner of the Vivendi Trophy and earned the prize money of £ 170,000. The prize money thus earned led Parry to buy a Vauxhall Astra. The twenty three year old turned professional some three years back and if we go
back a bit in history, Parry tells that he didn’t have money at all. His conditions were bought to even-up after his manager backed him up a little and he won in Paris.
His golf life began on the third Euro Pro Tour which required all players to contribute £ 270. Mcllory at that time was competing at the 2001 Walker Cup. The Royal County Down recognised Mcllory along with several other players
like the American Dustin Johnson, Rhys Davies, the British Danny Willet and Rickie Fowler who were an instant hit.
The Dunhill Championship contains the prize money of £ 502,000. If Parry continues to play the way he has been, the cup is sure to reach his hands but there is no assurance provided the competitive line-up like Martin Kaymer, Ross
Fisher and McDowell. The players from Ryder Cup are in good form.
