about 2 years ago i changed the head gasket on this vauxhall vectra i own,the head looked like it could do with a skimed but didnt bother anyway i completed the job and it has run fine ever since, now the head gasket went again so this time i have had the head skimed now its all back together but got a problem and cant fathom it out,...on idle speed the engine runs fine and have taken off the HT leads one at a time each cylender makes loads of difference,i have also done a compression check and all cylenders are way above normal,It has not a lot of power at low revs and is missing and the engine sounds flat when i pull away once the revs are up to 3000 its got power with no missing, all the lights are off on the dash with engine running and fuel comsumption is good as i have been 200 miles since,i have rechecked timeing marks plugins vaccum hoses, the only thing i done different this time is that i put the ignition module on befor the exhast mannifold so i had to take apart the EGR but it

  1. I think you've answered your own question - the head has been skimmed too much, and compression that's too high will cause as many problems as compression that's too low.

You say all cylinders are 'way above normal'. You need a new head.

  2. It may be that the skimming raised the compression ratio enough to alter the engine performance characteristics. Perhaps the combustion chambers should have been machined out to keep them at the original size.  The misfire is odd though and maybe a co-incidence. Might be just a faulty plug or lead. If a higher compression ratio was ok then Vauxhall would have done it, so I still think this is the most likely cause. Especially as it is the only thing you changed.
