  1. A full version Photoshop can cost around $500.  However, Adobe makes a version, called Photoshop Elements for under $100 and can do this effect and MUCH, much more.  Elements is a POWERFUL graphics tool and is similar in functionality to the full version Photoshop that pros were using ten years ago.

In fact, I know several professional designers that are very happy with Elements and have no need of the full version.

I would advise you to be very careful of anyone that offers a free Photoshop download.  You need to be aware that this practice is illegal and the sites that offer this are notorious for adding all kinds of viruses, trojans and other types of malware to the code that gets downloaded into your computer.

I am not suggesting that ALL products offered for free are this way.  But, I know for a fact that Adobe Software does NOT authorize any free downloads except for the free trial versions, available ONLY from their official website.  Any other free versions are stolen property.

As far as how those effects are done, it would take a LOT of space to describe, in detail, the steps needed.  It's not that it is hard to do, but, it takes time to learn how to use the Photoshop tools.

  2. If you are looking to work with Vectors then I would recommend something like Adobe Illustrator - but this costs a lot of money!

Photoshop does support Vectors but not as well or as easily as a dedicated vector package. Photoshop is more for Bitmap type images (photo quality material). It's more like painting.

Vectors are based on maths: lines, curves and angles. Have a look at the Wiki entry for a better explaination: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vector_grap...

They are very different to work with than raster/bitmap images. Took me a little while to get to grips with them. So start off with software that is free/cheap.

Have included some links in my sources.

    Hope this helps. :)
