Question:

Vectoring Lineart in Photoshop Illustrator?

I'm looking for a Tutorial to vectorize line art. In the Tutorial, the man had some drawings of cartoons he had done in Photoshop Elements using the Brush tool and wanted to vectorize it so that the lines were purely black and did not have the fading into white at the sides.

He opened the PSD file up in Photoshop Illustrator and selected something, which led to several options which allowed him to vectorize it. I realize I'm not being very clear, sorry. If anyone has another tutorial telling how to do this, or something similar to this, I would appreciate that as well. I'm looking how to change lineart that has already been done on another program and am just changing it to vectors in Illustrator.

  1. First of all, Illustrator and Photoshop are two different programs. One of the things you can do is to draw something or sketch it in pencil and then scan it into Photoshop. Once you've scanned it into Photoshop, you can place the scanned image in Illustrator and use it as a template to draw over it with the Pen tool. You can also run Live Trace, but that can be a little tricky and give you too many anchor points. It does sound like that's what he did; you would use Live Trace and make sure to select Show trace options.

You don't want to run Live trace on a complex image with many colors or subtle color variations. High contrast and simple work a lot better.
