Sergei Vedeneyev has urged the Brazilian hit-man to fill Aleksandr Kerzhakov’s boots in the near future and has urged the Russian Premier League club to strengthen defensively
Former Zenit Leningrad player, Sergei Vedeneyev, has lavished praise on 60 million Euros summer acquisition, Hulk, saying that the Brazilian striker can fill Aleksandr Kerzhakov’s boots in the near future.
Luciano Spalletti has used the 26-year-old mercurial forward, whom the defending champions signed from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Porto-c39186 this summer, on the wings courtesy to Kerzhakov’s brilliant form this season.
To the much delight of the St. Petersburg fans, the former Dynamo Moscow attacker maintained his fitness until now unlike the past seasons at Petrovsky stadium and is leading the top-scorer chart having already notched an incredible
10 goals this season.
Given that Spalletti likes to field just one striker up front, Kerzhakov’s scintillating form is forcing Hulk to play out of his natural position, an unfamiliar role that the player not accustomed to during his playing career.
Consequently, playing down the wings could be one of the few reasons why the former Tokyo Verdy player looks uncomfortable at the Russian dugout.
And while most of the senior football pundits have earmarked the hostile Russian weather behind Hulk’s below par performances to date, Vedeneyev is of the belief that the UEFA Europa League winner will be more expressive in a centre
forward role.
“If I am not mistaken, Hulk can replace Kerzhakov. And if he can keep playing at this role, he can score more goals and improve his strike rate. Spalletti replaces Kerzhakov with him or vice versa because he is well aware of the
situation.”
“http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Hulk-c16436 can do little damage from the wing and more if thrown at the center. I think we will see the old Hulk as soon as he will be deployed his favorite role, I am sure.” The Soviet Top League winner was quoted as saying.
Vedeneyev went on to urge the St. Petersburg club to improve defensively, requesting them to sign a pair of central defender during the upcoming January transfer window after partying company with out-of-form players such as Bruno
Alves.
