Hi Jacqueline here,

This is the first time that i have ever grew veg.

I planted them in the greenhouse in March, after i hardened them off i

put them outside in April i felt so successful as they seemed to grow

prefectly well, but now i feel like a failure as they have turned to

seed.

Can anybody advise as to what the problem could be, pictures can be

emailed to you.

  1. Ahh yes, cauliflower... They are a "cool weather crop" meaning that they are intolerant of significant heat. The plant's mission in the life cycle is to reproduce, so when the cauliflower plant becomes stressed, it's prompted to go to seed ASAP to ensure the next generation. Broccoli and iceburg lettuce are a couple other examples.

In the next couple of weeks, you can put more seed out in order to get a harvest in the fall. No harm done. Next spring, plant them out a few weeks earlier :)

  2. We need to know what veggies you are talking about to help.

  3. you didn't say what the plants were, if you leave them in the ground without picking the so called fruit off them they will run to seed, also you may have given them to much nitrogen in the feeding , that makes them grow all leafy and tall , as gardening is a lifetime of learning and mistakes, don't give up

  4. You have not stated what type of veggie or what area you are in..sounds like you planted some winter crops at the wrong time such as greens,lettuce,cauliflower,cabbage,spina... brussel sprouts, or some other plant that will bolt if grown in the warm months...
