  1. You town grocery doesn't sell beans, legumes, grains, fruits, vegetables, nuts, or seeds?

You don't need soy milk and fake meats to be a happy healthy vegan. Get on Amazon.com and get yourself a good cookbook, and get creative!

  2. All towns have fresh fruits and vegetables as well and whole grain products like bread, rice, and more.  Increasingly there are more small town stores that carry soy products like tofu and soy milk.

If you want a certain product and cannot find it, you can talk to a store manager and request that they start carrying it.  You never know...other people may be going through what you are in your own town right now.

There are numerous vegan online stores that can send you good vegan food, but it's not necessary if you have access to produce, grains, legumes and beans, etc.

    You'll do fine.

  3. As far as I know, every supermarket has staples like beans, peas, and rice, and fresh produce, which is a good start, and normal bread is often vegan.

After that, it seems to me that most supermarkets now carry tofu and Silk soy milk.

If there's something specific you're missing, you can also order it online (http://www.veganessentials.com or http://www.cosmosveganshoppe.com ).  The shipping can be pricey, but it might be worth it once in awhile, especially if you're saving a ton of money by eating dried beans and rice and whichever produce was on sale that week for many meals.

  4. Even small towns have plenty of fruits and veggies. And don't forget that you can make lots of tasty dishes vegan friendly by focusing on herbs and spices for flavor.

There are lots of easy recipes which can be found in books at your local bookstore, or just browsing online. I'm starting up an easy vegan recipe website, which can provide you with some ideas.

  5. well my friend is a vegan and we made him a vegtable lasagna and he loved it and a friut salad hope it helps we also bought a vegan cook book which really helped

  6. I know how you feel,  I was stuck in a small town too.  And if your town is anything like mine there probably isn't very much vegan products if any.  Do you live near a bigger town or city that you can go to?  They will most likely have more food available for vegans, that is what I had to do, I went into a different town and just bought a bunch of vegan products that would last me awhile.  If you can't get to a bigger town, then you will have to just make things using whatever is available to you such as beans, vegetables, seeds, fruit, and soy milk.  You could try to find recipes online that contains these products as well.

  7. Start growing your own fruit and vegetables

You might be surprised, some of the more exotic fruits and veg might grow quite easy.

use herbs and spices - to change and add different flavours.

    Grow your own Herbs too

  8. i'm pretty sure all towns have markets with fresh fruits and vegetables. whole grains wouldn't hurt either. a vegan diet doesn;t have to be based around mock meats and veggie burgers, you can just stick to the natural way of vegan diets [minus the milk and eggs]

  9. I grew up on a farm outside a small town, population approx. 200.  I feel your pain - so let me ask you, how far are you from a bigger town?  To get to an "ok" supermarket I would have to drive 100 miles - I'm assuming you have a town either this distance or less from you where you live?

STOCK UP on vegan stuff when you go to that supermarket.  Frozen vegan food can last a long time - try Amy's brand and buy a whole bunch.

Anything you think you can't get in your little town, and it can be frozen or stored for a long time, just buy enough until your next trip to the bigger town.

Hope this helps - good luck!

  11. grow your own vegetables.

  12. As someone else suggested, even small towns should sell things like beans, legumes, grains, fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds. And if they don’t, ask them to buy them in for you. If you live near a farm, you may be able to buy wholesale direct from the farmer.

You can also order most of these things from health food stores or organic on-line stores and have them shipped to you. I have just done an on-line purchase from a company 1000kms away and for a cost of only $5.95 postage they sent me the order within a matter of days. You don’t even need a credit card; many companies will accept cheques, money orders or direct debits onto their bank account via internet banking or High Street banking.

There are loads of books you can buy on Amazon and loads of free vegan cooking sites for inspiration.

You can grow your own fruit, vegetables & herbs at home, you can bake your own bread, you can grow your own wheatgrass, you can sprout your own seeds, lentils, chickpeas etc...

Even if you live in a high rise unit with a balcony, you can still grow things on it. Check out books permaculture books and DVDs by Bill Mollison. He has a whole DVD dedicated to growing foods on balconies.

If your local store does not sell the ingredients (but I am sure they will if you request it), again buy them on-line or by mail order.

I actually find a vegan based diet to be cheaper than a meat & cheese based diet.

  13. Wherever you go you can eat grass and dandelions.

  14. Hmm.. Maybe you could buy vegan foods online? If you go to amazon.com you can buy tons of vegan foods online and you get free shipping on alot of stuff. Maybe you can grow some stuff too. Like your own fruits and veggies so you can spend your money that you have on foods that you cant necessarily grow.
