Question:

Vegan Kabuki Make Up Brush?

Hi ,

I've been looking into a better choice of make up brush as I don't want to use animal hair....I've heard "Kabuki" brushes are Vegan - is that true?

Could someone please tell me what Kabuki is made from and if known, how it got it's name?

Also, I know Sable brushes (for painting) are animal derived - could someone please tell me what animal and what part they are made from?

Thanks in advance :-)

  1. "Kabuki" has only to do with the shape of the brush.  It will be made of the same materials as other brushes.  Kabuki is a type of Japanese performance art, not sure why the brush is named after it.

Some makeup brushes use polyester fibers, but most use boar, squirrel or horse hair (among others).  Going to stores or online shops that cater to vegans would probably stock something that you could use.  Also check Ebay or Amazon.com.  Type in makeup brushes, and they will list all types, animal hair and otherwise.

  2. Most Kabuki brushes are not vegan because they use animal hair. Actually many makeup bushes use animal hair. You can buy synthetic hair brushes from sephora.

They use boars hair a lot. Sometimes horse hair.
