Question:

Vegan Party Food?

Does anyone have any recipes that they have tried that are:

1.) Vegan.

2.) Tasty to non-vegans.

3.) Party food, ie appetizers, dips, mini sandwiches, finger foods.

4.) Can be made with ingredients that are easy to find and not super expensive.

We are going to a potluck block party where some of the guests are vegans and I want to bring something that everyone can eat so they are not stuck only eating what they prepared.

I do not want to deep fry anything, either.

  1. fruit  and veggie kabobs, bean dips including 6 or 7 layer dip with tofutti products and tortilla chips. olives, stuffed mushrooms, marinated artichoke hearts.

  2. I just made vegetable spring rolls tonight and they were so good even my non-vegetarian husband couldn't get enough of them.

P.S. If you do try this recipe, use the larger spring roll "papers"  - I used the small one's and they are much harder to roll.

  3. I have some suggestions, but I always just improvise them, so I won't include recipes.  It's easy to google if an idea strikes you.

    - Hummus, babba ganoush, tabouleh with pita (store bought or home made)

    - Crostini (olive oil brushed, toasted french bread) with white bean spread, roasted pepper strips,  sun dried tomato pesto, olive tapanade (you can omit the anchovies and it's fine)

    - Bruscetta (olive oil, toasted french bread with a topping of diced fresh tomato, olive oil, garlic, basil)

    - Pinwheel rolllups with hummus, asparagus, black olive, roasted red peppers

  4. Ultra simple would be hummus (there have to be a million recipes online) and an olive tapenade (ditto) served with some nice crackers.

  5. I go for fruit salad a lot. Melon balls, kiwi, strawberries all thrown together is yummy.

  6. Hummus and pita.

    Chips and salsa.

Both hummus and salsa are also good with crudites.

Here's a mock chopped liver recipe I adapted from "How it All Vegan!"  It goes well with plain rice crackers.

    1 8-oz container mushrooms

    1 large yellow onion

    olive oil

    garlic

    salt and pepper

    2-4 handfuls of walnuts

Sautee mushrooms and onion in olive oil until they start to soften, about five minutes or so.  Transfer to a blender and add garlic, salt, and pepper.  Pulse until it starts to liquefy.  Add walnuts and continue pureeing.  You want a slightly chunky texture.  Let sit overnight in the fridge to let the flavors blend.

  7. You could always go with easy, "accidentally" vegan snacks. Chips and salsa, veggies and dressing (vegan dips can be hard to find, but creamy Italian works well and is often vegan), crackers and hummus, guacamole, pretzels and peanut butter, Oreos and peanut butter, stuff like that.

  8. i love part ytime. I have two books called veganomicon and vegan baking. Both have recipes for cakes and vegan icecreams, and just so many other great fun and junky healthy foods!

Also you can make vegan cupcakes, chocolate cake, have chips with salsa,

    Pita chips with dip.

oh you can make vegan pizza and than cut it in small squares for fingure food.

Good luck. And make sure you send me an invite! party on!
